We acknowledge the traditional owners of the lands on which we live, and pay our respects to the Elders past, present, and future.

We hold in our hearts all those who have and are suffering from war and natural disasters, anywhere in the world.

Quakers in NSW are a spiritual community without creed, dogma or statement of belief. We seek to express our Testimonies - our principles of simplicity, peace, integrity, compassion, equality and earth care - in our everyday lives, based on our experience of the Spirit that dwells in every person.

Meeting for worship

Our meeting for worship is central to our spiritual life. Quakers gather in silence, usually on a Sunday. In silence, we actively listen for the Spirit within. When moved by the Spirit, someone may speak, and their words emerge from the silence and lead back into the dynamic silence. Marriages, funerals, and other special-purpose meetings are also held in a spirit of silent worship.

Anyone is welcome to join us in Meeting for Worship.

We have 14 Meetings in NSW, but some are widely scattered. The Kiama Meeting has recently been laid down, but for people in the area, there is still a Meeting at Thirroul. A new Meeting may be starting up at Dorrigo - watch this space!

How we manage our affairs

Australian Quakers do not ordain priests, ministers or pastors. Instead, the responsibility for the spiritual life of the Meeting, pastoral care, and managing our affairs is shared by the group. The Clerk of each Meeting is the person to contact for any information.

Each local meeting runs its own affairs. Meetings for worship for business, or 'business meetings', are held in a spirit of worship. All Friends are encouraged to participate. New South Wales holds regular regional meetings for worship for business, which deal with affairs at a state level, and these are held online.  We participate with Friends from around Australia in the annual Yearly Meeting. Our official title is the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), New South Wales Regional Meeting Inc.
