Public Statement following the recent violent disruption at the Capitol Building in Washington D.C.

Australians Quakers have made this public statement on 8 January 2021.

Recently the United States and the world witnessed an act of violent disruption at the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.

As Friends:

We express our deep concern for the people of the USA in the wake of the violent attack on the Capitol in Washington during the debate on the outcome of the Presidential election.

The use of violence generates the worst in human nature and undermines the democratic process.

Quakers have a longstanding commitment to nonviolent action for peace and justice, and support Americans in making their voices heard in this way.

We send our thoughts and prayers for a constructive way forward that builds upon the aspirations and efforts of many Americans to create a just and united society.
