Response from Australian Quakers to the violence in Sri Lanka at Easter

Jo Jordan, Presiding Clerk of Australian Quakers, has written to  Rt Rev. Canagasabey, The Bishop of the Diocese of Columbo, to express our sympathy and compassion for the tragic loss and suffering at Easter.

Rt Rev. Dhiloraj Canagasabey
The Bishop
Diocese of Columbo

Columbo 000700, Sri Lanka

Dear Rt Rev. Canagasabey,

Quakers in Australia send to you, and to the people of Sri Lanka, sympathy and compassion for your tragic loss and suffering at Easter.

Waves of shock and horror have been felt around the world at the acts of vilolence and hatred inflicted on your people.

We pray for comfort for those who grieve the loss of loved ones, healing for the injured and hope for those who suffer from the lasting effects of violence. We pray also for the building of a loving, faithful community in Sri Lanka.

The life and words of Jesus give us hope. May we, loving our neighbours, work together to create a more peaceful world.

In peace and friendship,

Jo Jordan

Presiding Clerk
Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in Australia
