Australian Quakers Join Call for Governments to Re-Commit to Peace

As COVID-19 Spreads, Global Peacebuilders Call on Governments to Re-Commit to Peace on International Day of Peace

21 September marks the International Day of Peace, which falls this year at a time where the world is suffering from the global crisis caused by #COVID19.  As the world virtually comes together for the opening of the UN General Assembly and High-Level Debate, Australian Quakers have joined with over 170 peacebuilding organisations from across the world to issue an urgent call to action to prioritise peace because: if we are to meet the challenges of tomorrow, we must recommit to peace today.

The statement stresses that responses to crisis that increase violence, injustice and exclusion will worsen development losses and increase human suffering.
A focus on peace, justice and inclusion must be at the heart of the response to COVID-19.
