Quaker World Plenary 2024 – Register Now

At the heart of the Quaker calendar next year will be the World Plenary from 5-12 August 2024 – probably be the only time this decade that such an event will happen.

General Secretary Tim Gee from FWCC World Office has been looking this week at the registrations so far, and says we are already expecting Friends from nearly 80 Yearly Meetings or groups.

In our Asia West Pacific Section, there is a place for each Yearly Meeting and recognised group (eg Hong Kong, Singapore, Bohol, Pasig) to provide an endorsement for one representative to Johannesburg, for the in-person component of the Plenary. A payment of $130 USD will be needed: otherwise fares and accommodation will be paid. Just go to the website (see below) and be prepared to upload your endorsement from your YM Clerk or recognised group convenor.

Our Asia West section also has nine open places for low income Friends to attend at reduced prices. That will also include travel and accommodation: and this will also need a contribution from the Friend of $130 USD. These need the code from myself, as Secretary.

There will be a good youth presence, as most of the 90% subsidised places for under 35s have now been taken up. There will be two places in Asia West Pacific for Young Friends. They will need to pay $130 and their travel fare, and also be given one of the two codes I’ve been provided as Secretary. On-site bookings have been extended to January. Every affiliated Yearly Meeting has a ‘place with their name on it’ until then, so if your YM hasn’t nominated yet, please do remind them to do so.

Friends in Osaka and Wellington are already making preparations for Hubs, a chance to remain at home but still join many of the events going on online and being streamed from Johannesburg.

People attending World Plenaries have called them “life-changing.” That sounds a very good reason to connect with our August 2024 event!
