David Johnson is a convinced Quaker of Conservative nature who is well versed in early Christian and early Quaker writings, finding in both the contemplative spiritualities that affirm the Inward Light within every one of us, and within the whole of creation. David has led retreats widely in Australia and overseas. His publications include: Peace is a Struggle (Backhouse Lecture 2005); A Quaker Prayer Life (2013); Jesus, Christ and Servant of God: Meditations on the Gospel According to John ( 2017); The Workings of the Spirit of God Within (2019); and Surrendering into Silence - Quaker Prayer Cycles (2020). David’s study session on Saturday May 6th 10am - 4pm at the Hobart Meeting House with a shared lunch. The proposed study sessions are on "Exploring Our Spiritual Condition - as individuals and as a Meeting Community", and " The Fundamental Principle of Quaker Spirituality - Light in the Conscience”.
Both draw on the writings of first and second generation Quakers.
